Nel 1944, la marina americana affida a Emeco una grande missione: costruire sedie resistenti all'acqua, alla salsedine e ai marinai, sedie al tempo stesso leggere e solide. Per rispondere a tutti questi criteri, l'alluminio s'impone con forza. Così è stata progettata la prima sedia Emeco: la sedia 1006, anche denominata la sedia "Navy". Emeco è riconosciuto in tutto il mondo per l'ottima qualità delle sue creazioni. Lavorazione, saldatura, levigatura a pomice, trattamento a caldo, anodizzazione... Non meno di 77 passaggi sono necessari per costruire una sedia "Navy". La lucidatura è manuale, richiede otto ore di lavoro e solo l'occhio umano può verificare se il procedimento si è svolto bene. Ci vogliono una manualità e una competenza tecnica eccezionali per realizzare una sedia Emeco. 100 % alluminio di cui 80% alluminio riciclato.

"Navy" è un prodotto ecologico che rispetta le norme LEED/tm. È un prodotto la cui vita media è stimata attorno a 150 anni ed è garantito a vita. Una sedia "instancabile e infrangibile" che si tramanda di generazione in generazione... È disponibile in alluminio lucido od opaco. "

1944- HISTORY OF THE EMECO NAVY CHAIR

In 1944, Wilton Carlyle Dinges founded the Electrical Machine and Equipment Company (Emeco) in Hanover Pennsylvania utilizing the skills of local craftsman. During WWII the U.S government gave him a big assignment, make chairs that could withstand water, salt air and sailors. Make chairs lightweight and make them strong, build them for a lifetime. Aluminum was the obvious choice, engineered for practical purposes, designed by real people. Emeco named the chair with a number: 1006, some people call it the Navy chair. We still call it the Ten-o-six. Forming, welding, grinding, heat-treating, finishing, anodizing- just a few of the 77 steps it takes to build an Emeco chair. No one else makes chairs this way. No one can. It takes a human eye to know when the process is done right, and it takes human hands to get it that way. Our goal. Make recycling obsolete and keep making things that last.

ALUMINUM AT EMECO

Aluminum is the most abundant of metals in a mineral called Bauxite. It is non-magnetic, it resists corrosion, and it has good reflective abilities. It also holds the ability to easily be recycled, repurposed, and reused. Approximately 75% of aluminum produced since 1888 is still in use today.

Since 1944, Emeco has been manufacturing and designing chairs built from 80% recycled aluminum. Of this recycled content, half comes from post-industrial waste (manufacturing scrap) and half comes from post-consumer waste (soft drink cans). Other chairs made from virgin aluminum have an energy density that is 17 times higher than that of Emeco chairs. Emeco all-aluminum chairs are 100% recyclable. But while recycled content and ability to be recycled is important, what truly makes our aluminum chairs smart, is that their estimated life span is 150 years or more, as a result of our unique 77 step process.
