Eppure, naturalmente anche loro hanno le loro radici. Tom Hoffmann, il “padre dei TOM´S DRAGS”, era un grande appassionato di viaggi. Nelle sue opere si riscontra l’influenza della Pop Art europea e americana. Essi si ispirano per esempio al Yellow Submarine, ma anche all’arte folcloristica europea, africana e asiatica. Queste ispirazioni da lui combinate in maniera particolarmente stravagante, hanno dato vita ai Drags che, ricchi di colori e gioia di vivere, rappresentano qualcosa di unico, individuale – nel vero senso della parola originale.”

Espressione di colori e di gioia di vivere: Come ogni idea grandiosa, anche questa ha una sua storia. Tutto ebbe inizio a seguito dei terribili attentati dell’11 settembre 2001, quando il terrore e la paura fecero rabbrividire l’intera popolazione. Tom Hoffmann creò il primo Drags senza perseguire uno scopo commerciale – bensì per fare un regalo personale, individuale e con una grande cura per i dettagli, un segno di gioia e buon umore che contrastasse la tristezza. Coloro che li ricevettero in regalo ne furono entusiasti: “Devi farne altri!” E così fu.

Persone, animali, accessori: Che si trattasse di camerieri, angeli o alligatori – nessuno poteva sfuggire allo stile Tom´s Drag. Qualsiasi cosa viene invasa dalla vivace e instancabile creatività del suo frivolo charme. Ruoli e cliché vengono interpretati in maniera sorprendente e talvolta anche completamente ribaltati. Nel corso del tempo i Drags hanno conquistato sempre più svariati settori: oggi, oltre alle sculture, ci sono mobiletti, sopramobili e numerosi accessori, perfino stoviglie e divani in Drag design. Ognuna di queste creazioni uniche viene prodotta e riprodotta a mano.

Tom’s Drag® – un’idea regalo molto particolare diventa un’iniziativa mondiale: Una storia cominciata in seguito ad una catastrofe, quella dell’11 settembre 2001 che ha lasciato il mondo intero in stato di choc. In quell’occasione l´artista tedesco Tom Hoffmann (1956-2012) aveva voluto dare un segnale forte. Con le prime ‘drags’ che erano esclusivamente regali per gli amici, Tom intendeva risvegliare il loro ottimismo e la gioia di vivere. Da allora in poi la sua idea ha funzionato così bene che la comunità dei fans ‘drags’è diventata internazionale e si è diffusa in tutto il mondo.

AZIENDA: La Tom’s Company è stata fondata nel 1988 da Thomas ’Tom’ Hoffmann e Arno Müller a Sulzbach/Sarre (Germania). Dalla morte inaspettate di Tom nel 2012, gli affari sono gestiti da Arno Müller ed il suo team. A stand-alone world of figures and shapes: Witty, whimsical, weird – spanning all the colors of the rainbow, Tom’s Drags are unique and stylishly designed objects for the home. They are matchless but of course they have their roots, too. Their designer, Tom Hoffmann (1956-2012) traveled often and loved it. In his work we find influences from European and American pop art. They are reminiscent of Yellow Submarine, and also of the ornamentation in European, African and Asian popular culture. Tom combined these in his very own unique way, thus creating a lusty frenzy of colors and joys of life. His work is “original” in the truest sense of the word!

A manifesto of colors and zest for life: As with every great idea, there is a story behind the Drags, too. It began after the terrible terrorist attacks of 9-11 when a deep fear covered people like an icy blanket. Tom Hoffmann created his first drags without any commercial intention. They were personal gifts, created as individual pieces with his love for details. These tokens traded sadness and anger for humor and joy. Those who received these unique gifts responded with appreciation and enthusiasm: “You´ve got to make more out of this!” And so it came to pass.

People, animals, decorative items: Waiters, angels, alligators – nothing is off limits. The light-hearted charm of Tom’s Drag infuses anything and everything with tireless, playful and inexhaustible creativity. Roles and clichés are reinterpreted in surprising ways, often turned completely upside down. All creations are made and reproduced by hand.

Tom´s Drag® – a very personal gift idea evolved into a world-wide sensation: A story of success started some years ago. It actually began with a disaster, when the world was frozen in a state of a collective shock after 9-11 2001. The German artist Tom Hoffmann (1956 – 2012) wanted to create something completely different that would give a feeling of optimism and joie de vivre. His first hand-painted “drags” were made as a gift for his friends and family. They were so well received that the “Drag”-fan community is now spread all over the world.

COMPANY: Tom´s Company was established in 1988 by Thomas “Tom” Hoffmann und Arno Müller in Sulzbach-Saar, Germany. Since Tom´s sudden and unexpected death in February 2012, the company business and common lifework are managed by Arno Müller and his team. Univers extraordinaire de formes et de couleurs: Multicolores, rigolos, décalés, de toutes les couleurs de l´arc-en-ciel: les Tom´s Drags sont des objets de design uniques. Les racines des Drags se trouvent dans le „pop art“ européen et américain, ils nous rappellent par exemple, Yellow Submarine mais aussi les ornementations présentent dans les cultures populaires d‘Europe, d‘Afrique et d‘Asie. Tom combinait, grâce à son incroyable talent d‘artiste, ces différents éléments auxquels il a transmis sa joie de vivre enivrante et pleine de couleurs. Les Drags sont à la fois uniques et individuels. Ce sont de „vraies œuvres originales“, dans le vrai sens du terme.

Un manifeste des formes et de la joie de vivre: Comme chaque grande idée, les Tom´s Drags aussi ont leur histoire. C´est après les terribles attentats du 11 septembre 2001, quand la terreur et l´angoisse se sont emparées des hommes, que Tom Hoffmann, créa ses premiers “Drags”. Il les a créé, non pas dans un but économique, mais plutôt comme des cadeaux personnels, créés affectueusement (en détail et de façon individuelle) avec le souci du détail et de la personnalisation. Ils ont été imaginés pour nous aider à combattre notre tristesse, nous apporter de l´humour et réveiller nos sens. Les personnes qui se virent offrir ces premiers Drags, furent tellement enthousiastes, qu’elles réclamèrent unanimement à Tom d’en créer davantage. Et ainsi fut-il.

Personnages, animaux, accessoires: Garçons, anges ou alligators – rien n´est à l´abri de Tom´s Drag. A tous est insufflé son charme ludique, grâce à une créativité infatigable, joueuse et inépuisable. Des rôles et des clichés sont interprétés de façon surprenante, voire bouleversante. 

Au fil du temps, les drags conquirent toujours plus nos univers quotidiens: en plus des sculptures, il y a aujourd´hui des petits meubles, des articles d´art de la table, beaucoup d´accessoires, mais aussi de la porcelaine et des sofas, dans le style Tom´s Drag. Ces pièces uniques sont toutes confectionnées et reproduites à la main.

Tom´s Drag® – une idée de cadeau très personnelle devient une entreprise mondiale: Une histoire qui a commencé il y a quelques années. En somme : tout a commencé par une catastrophe. Après le 11 septembre 2001 quand le monde entier était en état de choc, l´artiste allemand Tom Hoffmann (1956-2012) a voulu donner un signal. COMPANY: Tom’s Company a été fondée en 1988 par Thomas Hoffmann et Arno Müller qui gère l´entreprise depuis la disparition tragique et inattendue de Tom comme associé unique. La maison produit et distribue dans le monde entier les objets de design sous le nom de marque “Tom´s Drag®”. Aujourd´hui, près de 80 employés dans le monde entier ainsi qu´ un réseau dense de distributeurs en Europe et outre-mer travaillent avec Tom´s Company. Les trois-quarts des œuvres d´art sont vendues à l’export.

Eigenständige Figuren- und Formenwelt: Bunt, witzig, schräg, in allen Farben des Regenbogens, stilvoll eingefangen in Design-Objekten für den Wohnbereich: Tom’s Drags sind unvergleichlich. Und doch haben auch sie natürlich ihre Wurzeln. Tom Hoffmann, der „Vater“ der Tom”s Drags®, reiste gern und viel. In seinen Werken finden sich Einflüsse aus der europäischen und amerikanischen Popart. Sie erinnern beispielsweise an Yellow Submarine, aber auch an europäische, afrikanische und asiatische Volkskunstornamentik. Diese kombinierte er auf seine ganz eigene Weise und so stellen die Drags in ihrer farbenrauschhaften Lebensfreude etwas ganz Eigenes, Individuelles dar – im besten Sinne des Wortes originell. 

Ein Manifest der Farben und der Lebensfreude: Wie jede großartige Idee haben Tom’s Drags ihre Geschichte. Es war nach den schrecklichen Attentaten vom 11. September 2001, als der Schrecken und die Angst sich wie kaltes Eis über die Menschen legten. Tom Hoffmann schuf die ersten Drags, ohne eine kommerzielle Verwertung im Sinn zu haben – sondern als persönliche Geschenke, individuell und liebevoll bis ins Detail gestaltet, gedacht als Zeichen gegen die Tristesse, für Humor und Sinnesfreude. Die Beschenkten waren begeistert: „Daraus musst du mehr machen!“ Und so geschah es.

Menschen, Tiere, Accessoires: Ob Kellner, Engel oder Alligatoren – nichts ist vor Tom´s Drag sicher. Allem wird in nimmermüder, verspielter, unerschöpflicher Kreativität der frivole Charme von Tom´s Drag eingehaucht. Überraschend werden Rollen und Klischees interpretiert, auch mal komplett auf den Kopf gestellt. Im Laufe der Zeit eroberten die Drags immer mehr Lebensbereiche: Heute gibt es neben den Skulpturen auch Kleinmöbel, Tischkultur-Artikel, viele Accessoires, ja sogar Geschirr und Sofas im Drag-Design. Jede dieser einzigartigen Kreationen wird von Hand hergestellt und vervielfältigt. Tom´s Drag® – aus einer sehr persönlichen Geschenkidee wurde ein globales Unternehmen Eine Erfolgsstory, die vor einigen Jahren begann. Das heißt, es begann eigentlich mit einer Katastrophe. Der 2012 verstorbene Künstler Tom Hoffmann wollte damals, als die Welt nach dem 11. September 2001 im kollektiven Schockzustand verharrte, ein Zeichen setzen: Er wollte mit den ersten handbemalten Drags als Geschenk für Freunde und Bekannte wieder Optimismus und Lebensfreude wecken. Das gelang – und mittlerweile gelingt es so gut, dass die Fan-Gemeinde der Drags auf der ganzen Welt zu finden ist.

COMPANY: „Tom’s Company®“ wurde 1988 von Thomas „Tom“ Hoffmann und Arno Müller in Sulzbach-Saar gegründet. Seit Toms plötzlichem und unerwartetem Tod im Februar 2012 führt Arno Müller das gemeinsame Unternehmen und Lebenswerk zusammen mit dem langjährigen Tom´s Team weiter.
